Feedback and testimonies have already started flooding in, have a read of some of them here. Also, keep an eye on our YouTube page as we update it with the speakers messages and conference highlight videos.

We had the stunning Instruments of Praise gospel choir lead us in worship and it was truly heavenly. We also had Daughters of Davis who absolutely blew us away with their fantastic acoustic folk/soul vibe.

Our Women in Business section was a real treat with stalls offering all sorts of beautifully displayed goods. Jill Chitty from the Entrepreneurs Circle spoke to the women in business offering practical tips for business growth. Other breakout sessions included a Hope for Justice talk by Naomi and Cynthia shared her testimony of life as a Samburu woman.

Molly Catherine Beebee from Cirencester Creative Dance Academy dazzled us with her spectacular ballet and the beautiful Tricia Bailey gave us all goosebumps when she sung her brand new single - Your Love and Grace. Tricia didn't just sing us a song, she imparted something very powerful and she did it through the most intensely beautiful, heartfelt vocals. We will definitely be featuring Tricia here on the King's Daughters blog again as soon as her single hits iTunes. You don't want to miss out on this one ladies!

A very big thank you to the D7 Men for serving us and the children all day long and to Lorah Kelly for the stunning photos.

Being a Friend - Who Offers Godly Advice

It’s not easy knowing when to speak into another person’s life and when to hold your tongue.  Some people speak into other’s lives all the time but their words bear no fruit and other people seldom say anything and miss opportunities to sow valuable seeds into another person’s life.  A great friend is one who knows the value of giving Godly advice and will do so whenever necessary.  There is also a great deal of value in knowing when to say nothing and just offer loving acceptance.

So how can we become a friend that offers Godly advice?  There are two simple steps 1) get to know God and 2) get to know your friend.  It is that simple. Let me give you an example of a man who received unwise advice from his friends, advice which ultimately led to his death.  His name was Haman and he was a 5th Century B.C. noble and high-ranking political advisor of the Persian Empire under King Ahasuerus.  He found himself in a difficult situation, nevertheless Haman restrained himself and went home, and he sent and called for his friends and his wife Zeresh . To cut a long story short, they did not give Haman Godly advice and he was hanged as a result of following it. This story is one of the most famous stories of Jewish history and it could have turned out very differently if Haman had friends who offered Godly advice.
Your advice might not be so dramatic but how do you know that what you say to your friends might not lead them down the wrong path that could end in disaster?  Proverbs 15:22 says that, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”  It is good to have a group of people that you trust to give you advice.  People who you know have your best interests at heart.  People that care about you.  Also, do your best to be that person to your friends.
To give Godly advice means that you know God.  The best way to know God is to read about Him in the Bible.  If what you are advising your friends to do is in line with what the Bible says then you can rest assured that you are giving Godly advice.  The Bible is full of gems that can help you to help your friends.
Another way to offer Godly advice is to pray to God and ask Him to give you wisdom.  It says in James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”  A friend who gives Godly advice takes time to pray before speaking because she understands that her advice could dramatically affect her friend’s life.
Being silent might be the best Godly advice you can give a friend at times.  Too often we feel we have to have an answer for everything but sometimes just having a listening ear is all our friend might need.  Our unnecessary words could bring confusion or burden our friend and so at times the best advice is no advice at all.  Proverbs 17:27-28 puts it quite nicely, “He who has knowledge spares his words,
And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.  Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.”
Being and having a friend who offers Godly advice is valuable, especially in this day and age when anything goes and so much contradictory advice is given from all angles.  Make sure you have Godly friends and aim to be a friend who gives Godly advice.
Finally, giving Godly advice also has to do with knowing your friend.  Take time to listen before you speak, after all God did give you two ears and only one mouth.  Make sure you have all the info you need before advising your friend and take time to understand not only the situation but how she feels about it.  Too often us girls jump in with all sorts of advice before we fully understand how our friend feels or what the real problem is.  In most situations we need to take our time to get to know our friend, to truly understand them before offering advice.

The Five Stages of Business

ESTABLISHMENT
Your business is being created.  Everything seems fun and new at this stage but in most cases money is tight.   This is a time to be creative in getting known and a time to find your feet in what you do.  Usually this stage is when the owner does everything all the time.   Sadly, many businesses close when the start up money runs out, so the key is to keep overheads and expenses to a minimum.  Spending money on sales campaigns and business listings is unwise as they seldom produce the desired results.

Establishment Problems:
Cash flow, marketing and gaining new clients.

Establishment Keys:
Keep overheads and expenses to a minimum Establishment Tips: Only use free business directories Use all free online listing options Pitch either with a cheaper version or premium version Network with other businesses Create strong relationships with existing clients Start with a free website, blog and hosting Open a separate bank account for your business Reconcile your bank statement Prepare monthly financial reports Don’t use debt Use technology and social networking sites Provide excellent customer service at all times Find creative ways to get into your local newspaper Be honest Create a contact database

ENDURANCE
Your business is trying to survive.  Few businesses make it past this stage but those that do realise that this is the time to have specific direction, possibly finding a niche.  At this stage you need to work smarter not harder.  You only have twenty four hours in your day like everyone else so see how you can maximise your time through time management and by developing systems.  It is essential at this stage to start working on the business and not in it or else you will never leave the endurance stage.

Endurance Problems:
Tiredness, overworking and being discouraged.

Endurance Tips:
Prepare and use cash flow forecasts Get to know your competition Run regular stock takes Manage your time Stick to working hours, don’t overwork Accept card payments Set up a referral system Invest in personal hobbies Remember clients’ birthdays and personal details

EXPANSION
Your business is growing.  This is when you are able to take on staff members and offload some of the workload that you are not particularly suited to.  It is essential to choose staff carefully and not rush into it.  Having the right people on board will be hugely beneficially to your company.  It is worth investing some of your time in learning about people or hiring someone who specialises in people before appointing your staff.  The right people come motivated and are passionate about the business.  As Jim Collins in his book Good to Great says, “Great vision without great people is irrelevant.”   A great team will not only help you get the work done but they will also help you figure out how to get the work done.  Synergy is essential.   This stage is critical as it could cripple the business if handled poorly.

Expansion Problems:
People, people and people.

Expansion Tips:
Get the right people on your team Create a strong business culture Talk and listen to employees Check employee references Invest your time in learning about people Invest in your people Document your processes and streamline your systems Employ people with skills you don’t have Delegate, delegate, delegate

EXISTENCE
Your business is succeeding and to get to the next level you need to ensure that you are managing your business with precision and excellence.   Your staff are settled and your client base is consistent.  The big question at this stage is whether or not to expand or to keep the business running in this comfortable and profitable place.  Franchising your business could be a possibility as well as acquiring smaller businesses in the same field so as to buy out the competition.  The possibilities are endless and so are the risks.  This may also be a stage where you need to confront the brutal facts.  People, products or processes might be holding your business back.  What changes do you need to make to get your business to the next level?    Flip Flippen of the Flippen Group says, “No organization can rise above the constraints of its leadership. It is therefore imperative that leadership at all levels be constantly growing beyond their constraints.”

Existence Problems:
Poor leadership, strained systems and denial.

Existence Tips:
Working on your constraints Asses the business and confront the brutal facts Lead with questions not answers Beware of de-motivating your team Pay people to do the things you are not good at Merge with or acquire another business Expand globally Diversify or simplify Get efficient through technology Utilize intellectual property Competing in markets dominated by big brands

ESTABLISHED
Your business is recognized and accepted.  You can finally put your feet up on your desk as your have achieved a successful business. The business is growing and it is mature.  Although all businesses require constant effort, you most certainly have something to celebrate at this stage.  Clear communication of the vision and a good relationship with your team are crucial at the stage.  As the saying goes, it only takes one rotten apple to spoil the whole barrel.   To stay ahead you need to be innovative and not get too comfortable in your success.  In the beginning of your journey your business was built on your skills and talents but now it’s time to use other people’s skills and talents to get your business to keep moving forward.

Established Problems:
Complacency, competition and lack of change.

Established Tips:
Stay focused Stay disciplined Keep your team disciplined Don’t look at past success, create new challenges

The band consists of the two sisters, Adrienne and Fern Davis, who write music with an acoustic folk/soul vibe. Adrienne plays acoustic guitar with vocals that are "gritty and soulful" and Fern incorporates percussion and provides a vocal performance reminiscent of 60's soul, but with a clear and powerful, new folk twist.

Get your ticket here and if you can't make it during the day why not join us for an evening celebration with Daughters of Davis, Tricia Bailey who will be unveiling her debut single, Your Love and Grace and D7 Band followed by an awesome message.  The evening ticket is £10 with entrance from 5pm - get your ticket here.

And if that wasn't enough to wow you - we also have the lovely Molly Catherine Beebee from Cirencester Creative Dance Academy  doing a beautiful classical ballet for us.

Nature's Way - Masks

There are so many weird and wonderful things that you can use to make a facial mask.  My daughters and I have had loads of fun with natural masks and also had great results.  Many chemical masks have frighteningly high risks so soaking your face with them is not a good idea.  Most masks contain dangerous substances and block your pores.  It is important to allow your skin to breathe and adding too many products can have an adverse effect.  Less is more when it comes to your skin so find a beauty regime that allows your skin to find a natural balance.
Most of the time what you put into your body has more effect that what you put onto your skin.  Eating healthy, exercising, sleeping well and drinking lots of water are the most important ingredients for the best looking skin.   After that comes a simple cleanse, tone and moisturise routine with natural ingredients.  If necessary, use a Nature’s Way mask from time to time.

The following table shows the health concerns based on commonly used chemical mask.

The best thing to help your skin get the boost it needs is a facial massage which is known to improve the circulation to your skin and will rejuvenate your face.  Here is a simple facial massage:
  1. Apply a little olive oil or facial essential oil to your face
  2. Use your finger tips fingers to massage up and outwards in a circular motion, starting from your chin.  Start small and make the circles bigger as you move to the top of your forehead.
  3. For added benefits continue your massage into your scalp as if shampooing your hair.

Nature’s Way Alternatives
If you decide that you need a mask why not try avocado for dry skin, green tea masks for sensitive skin, strawberry with yogurt for oily skin and oats with lemon for acne prone skin.  An egg white mask is suitable for all skins types.  Egg whites are high in protein which feeds your skin and as the egg dries it tightens your skin while drawing excess oil from the pores.
Eating eggs is also great for your skin as they contain selenium, vitamins A and E, folate, riboflavin, choline and lutein.  Some studies have suggested the eating eggs will smooth your skin.

Results:
•    Healthier skin
•    Removes fine lines
•    Save lots of money
•    No harmful chemicals

Cautions:
•    Don’t use a mask too often as it isn’t necessary.

NATURE’S WAY MASKS

Ingredients:  Egg White

Method:  Whisk the egg whites until they get foamy. Smooth the white onto your face in an upward motion, applying liberally.  Allow to dry for twenty minutes and then rinse off with warm water.

More mask recipes:
There are many other simple ways to make masks using natural ingredients, here are some examples:

Avocado
Mash together the flesh of an avocado and apply to your face.  Rinse off after ten minutes.  You can also include a teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon of yogurt to your avocado for added benefits.

Strawberry
Mix equal quantities of fresh strawberries and yogurt. Apply to your face and rinse off after ten minutes.

Green Tea
Soak a green tea bag in a quarter cup of boiling water.  When cooled sufficiently soak some cotton wool with the green tea and dab it onto your face liberally.  Allow the green tea to dry naturally and don’t rinse off.
Another alternative which will need washing off after ten minutes is to mix a little oats and honey into the green tea to create a face paste.

Now it's your turn.
If you have any mask tips that work well, please share them with us.  Find out more about Nature's Way here.
